The Word’s out on The Modern Outfitter
The new issue of The Word magazine includes a photo-spread on the exhibition Lloyd Johnson: The Modern Outfitter.
There are some photographic gems, among them John Lydon in a lairy Johnson’s plaid suit in 1980* and the cover of Wreckless Eric’s album The Wonderful World Of…, which has a whole bunch of people in suits from Lloyd’s shop (including Danny Baker drafted in to stand behind the drum-kit). I’ll leave it to Kosmo Vinyl to account for the journey made by the suits from World’s End to the photo-session and back again…
And, in this month’s issue of local paper Kensington & Chelsea Today, Don Grant names the show’s venue Chelsea SpaceĀ as “the coolest place on the planet” on the night of the private view.
Lloyd Johnson: The Modern Outfitter is on until March 3. Chelsea Space is open Tuesday – Saturday.

- In fact the suit, tie and the sheepskin worn by Lydon in this photograph were designed and supplied by PiL’s regular clothing source Kenny MacDonald, who operated the boutique Marx in the King’s Road.
