Barney Bubbles (born Colin Fulcher 1942; died 1983) was a radical graphic designer, illustrator and artist whose extraordinary body of work was concentrated in the music business. He designed record sleeves, posters, advertising and ephemera for a vast range of artists including Billy Bragg, Kevin Coyne, The Damned, Elvis Costello & The Attractions, Dr Feelgood, Ian Dury & The Blockheads, Hawkwind, Nick Lowe, Squeeze and the Sutherland Brothers.

Bubbles also directed videos for several of these artists as well as for such groups as The Specials; his promo for their 1981 number 1 single Ghost Town is recognised as an era-defining film.

Bubbles was extremely prolific: he art-directed publications including Oz, Friends and New Musical Express, created bookworks with photographer Brian Griffin, painted privately and designed furniture and concert staging. His works are in the collections of a number of world-renowned institutions including the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art and London’s Victoria & Albert Museum.

    Hello:

I am Richard Synchef. I am 67 and live near San Francisco. I may have the best collection of Beat and 1960s Counterculture items in the US in private hands. Andrew Sclanders is a great guy. He has bought countless items from me on his many buying trips here every year. His catalogs are amazing.

If you want to read about my collection, type in “Blueprint for the Occupy Movement” from Collectors Weekly. It has many examples of my items.

    Cheers.
    Richard Synchef
