Next month I’m taking part in an event which examines the birth of London club culture in the early 60s.
Held at creative hub Second Home, London Stories: The Mod is the first in a three-part series of discussions hosted by Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton, authors of the club bible Last Night A DJ Saved My Life and the men behind the mandatory DJ History.

I’ll be contributing nuggets from my research into the period for such projects as The Look: Adventures In Rock & Pop Fashion while first-hand testimony will be provided by music manager/original mod Mickey Modern.

The other events in the series look to be equally interesting, following the story as it weaves via such hallowed premises as soul-boy central Crackers in Wardour Street and pioneering gay night Bang in Charing Cross in the 70s to acid-house ground zero Shoom in Borough in the 80s and beyond.
Wonder if they’ll mention Kermit’s off Kensington High Street where I spent one of the most memorable nights of my life in 1978?
