The Lewis Leathers shop in Whitfield Street W1 was the venue of the launch of The Look Of London map collaboration with Herb Lester Associates.
For many years at 124 Great Portland Street and these days operated by our host Derek Harris, Lewis Leathers is one of the few remaining businesses of the 113 featured in the map, which focuses on the half-century from 1950.
Among those at the party – which was sponsored by Saint craft lager – were people whose shops also feature in The Look Of London, including Lloyd Johnson (the subject of my exhibition earlier this year who had outlets in Kensington and World’s End) and Nigel Waymouth, who features in one of my King’s Road films as a founder of Granny Takes A Trip.
