Following my post of photos from the free music festival at Windsor Great Park to the west of London in 1973, attendee Dave Walkling has sent a couple of sharp images which capture the anticipation in the crowd just before Hawkwind’s set.
These also show in detail the band’s equipment which was decorated by Barney Bubbles, including the painted drumhead which I wrote about yesterday.

January 10, 2015 at 10:45 amHi Paul, In July of that year my sister took me to my first concert which happened to be Hawkwind at the De Montfort Hall in Leicester. I was 12 years old. I still can remember the stage set up, the artwork on the equipment, liquid len and the lensmen(?) and how can you not forget Stacia. A great introduction to live music.

What great pix and brings back such great memories. I was at that gig and took some pix of Hawkwind but most of my negs are long lost. I’ve got a couple of madly processed shots of Nik and Bob Calvert taken at about the same time as your shots on this page cos their positions are very similar. I can’t find myself in your shots so I must be behind someone. I’ll send you copies if you like (they are crap scans of madly processed high contrast negs – but you might be interested.)
