Acid Aalto at Chelsea Arts Club
My friend Donald Smith’s exhibition Acid Aalto opens at London’s Chelsea Arts Club tonight.
Donald – director of Chelsea Space – is presenting his highly coloured paint sketches as a response to the Aalto Vase (designed in 1936 by Alvar Aalto). Examples of the glass vases are displayed as part of the show.
Acid Aaalto springs from Donald’s 2009 collaboration with former Burro director Tim Parker on an exhibition of Finnish glass design at Chelsea Space.
Donald says he was also inspired by staging my show Process: The Working Practices Of Barney Bubbles.
He describes Art Vs Chelsea – above but not included in Acid Aalto – as “an afterword from me on the Barney Bubbles exhibition. Barney was definitely the starting point for the series, as can be seen in the Constructivist-influenced Acid Aalto 1”.
Acid Aalto runs until May 1 and is open to CAC members or by appointment with the club.
