James Jackson presents Fête des Imbéciles: An exhibition of works by Robert Rubbish

“No fool can be silent at a feast” Solon, Greek lawmaker and philosopher 630-560 BC

West London antiques dealer James Jackson is inaugurating his newly refurbished premises with Fête des Imbéciles, an exhibition of works by the British artist Robert Rubbish.

“The show explores Parisian literary and arts history, as well as the thematic trope of the feast, from pagan ritual to the literary lunch,” says Rubbish, a founding member of the art collective Le Gun.

Drawing on Rubbish’s interest in literature, surrealism and food in art and in particular in Georgian prints, Fête des Imbéciles contains references to historical moments where dining is prevalent, as well as in scenes from films directed by Federico Fellini, Jean-Luc Godard and Ken Russell.

There is also an installation based on Meret Oppenheim’s surreal spring feast.

Fête des Imbéciles opens tonight and runs until May 19.

James Jackson is at 279 Lillie Rd, London SW6. Find out more about Jackson here.
