My new book Totally Wired: The Rise & Fall of the Music Press is out in the UK, Europe, Australia and other countries, so I have been active on the promotional front.

With flyposters for the book on the streets of Manchester, Liverpool and London, I have been interviewed by BBC Radio London’s Robert Elms and Word In Your Attic’s Mark Ellen and David Hepworth.

I also took part in Monocle Radio’s Robert Bound’s overview of the music press with The Guardian‘s Laura Snapes, Dazed contributor Natty Kasambala and veteran music journalist Andrew Mueller, though am mildly ticked off that the discussion with Snapes and Kasambala was allowed to convey the impression that my book lionises the male-led ‘glory days’ of the 1970s when in fact it calls out the racism, sexism and homophobia woven into the fabric of those publications.

On Saturday I was in conversation with commentator and author Peter York at the inaugural Walthamstow Weekender literary and comedy festival, and will be talking to DJ/author Dave Haslam about zines and other independent music publications at the Bound Art Book Fair in Manchester on October 30.

Before that there’s an event planned with London’s leading magazine retailer Magculture on October 27 and I’m also participating in the Write Idea Festival on November 6 in East London. For details see my activities + events page.

Totally Wired is published by Thames & Hudson in the US on November 26.
