Recent journalism: Baggies with attitude for MacGuffin + the colour black in street style for Fred Perry Quarterly
Here’s a couple of pieces of recently published journalism, one filed for the Netherlands-based biannual MacGuffin, the other for the second issue of Fred Perry Quarterly.
For MacGuffin‘s issue on trousers I wrote about black urban styles, taking in the post-war Zoot Suit Riots, UK street turf wars and the looks of soul, funk, reggae and hip-hop, using as my launchpad i-D‘s 1991 British fashion story Baggies With Attitude.
For FPQ relaunch of the black/champagne colourway which was first introduced way back in the 1950s, I discussed how the colour black is the anti-hero’s option, connoting nights out and the dark dingy spaces where subcultures are nurtured.
MacGuffin is available from all good magazine sellers and direct here; FPQ is free in all Fred Perry outlets.
