Janette Beckman’s Punk Hip Hop Mashup opens in London next week
Next week witnesses the opening of a London exhibition of reworked images by music/street art photographer Janette Beckman.
Many of the participants have been subjects of Beckman’s. The UK contingent include such figures as musician-turned-artist Horace Panter, fashion designer Pam Hogg, DJs Princess Julia, Chris Sullivan and Christos Tolera (of the 80s Latin ensemble Blue Rondo A La Turk) and illustrator Ian Wright, while contributors from Beckman’s home base New York include artist and Def Jam’s founding creative director Cey Adams, muralists Alice Mizrachi and Queen Andrea and skate designers Morning Breath.
The collage being used to promote the show is by transplanted Brit Kosmo Vinyl. This incorporates a Beckman photograph of the enduring London stylers Chuka and Dubem Okonkwo (at one time known as The Islington Twins).
Punk Hip Hop Mashup is at Punctum at Chelsea College Of Art from January 19-30. More details on the exhibition’s Facebook page.
