Encounter with an enigma: Vice Q+A with Pierre Cardin
Last month I spent a fascinating couple of hours in the company of one of the grand enigmas of the age, Pierre Cardin.
The encounter – for Vice magazine – took place at Cardin’s office in Paris’ 8th. As sharp as a tack and age-defying, Cardin will be 90 in July.
Ever the Futurist, Cardin was born near Treviso in northern Italy as Modernism swept Europe, so I went prepared with a copy of Futurismo 1909-1919. He perused it with delight before signing the frontispiece: “I have the greatest respect for this artistic movement”.
Our conversation is published as a Q+A in the current edition of Vice. See here.
