Experimental + inspirational: Wild Daughter
I was flattered recently to receive an email from Jacob Shaw, bassist in art-rockers Wild Daughter, about the effect my work has had on certain visual elements of the group and in particular a performance during their recent ICA night The Moon Sextiles The Sun.
“We touch on similar reference points,” wrote Jacob. “I used your blog as research for the recent performance at the ICA. Your blog is the kind of blend and underside of style I’ve been looking for for a while: early SEX and Roxy, London Leatherman, etc. I’m on a massive Roxy kick at the moment so there is plenty of stuff to get into Antony Price-wise… also the George Cox stuff is really informative too.”
I really like the limited edition newspaper-format publication created by Wild Daughter’s Jeanette, Shaw and guitarist Stuart McKenzie with a stellar cast of contributors for the night at the ICA.
Douglas Hart’s clip for the great new single Mr G – which was produced by Dan Donovan and Mark Moore – draws on the American experimental artist Bruce Conner’s 1966 film Breakaway.
