PRINT! Tearing It Up ends with a British Values bang
PRINT! Tearing It Up – the exhibition I co-curated at London’s Somerset House this summer – ended with a bang with a talk by journalist Kieran Yates about her magazine British Values (one of my highlights of the show).
British Values’ spiky, funny, pro-immigrant communities stance attracted the attention of the exhibition’s co-curator, Somerset House senior curator Claire Catterall. We agreed British Values should be given prominence in PRINT! since it is a prime example of independent magazine culture engaging with two of our most pressing issues: identity and migration.
Yates’ enlightening talk on Wednesday ended with a general discussion on the whys and wheretofores of independent publishing… and she revealed that she is putting together issue 3 of BV right now. Once again, Theresa May is likely to be the cover star (whether she’s still Prime Minister by publication date is a moot point).
We were really encouraged by the response to PRINT! over its 10-week run; attendance numbers were high and the show seemed to engage young and old of every persuasion. Thanks to all of you who came along and offered encouragement and insights.
