Four extraordinary works by the late Barney Bubbles are to feature in Christie’s Out Of The Ordinary sale, the annual event which is fast becoming one of the highlights of the auction calendar.
The sale includes three of Bubbles’ unusual furniture designs – entitled The AC/DC Desk, The Ian Dury Cocktail Cabinet and The Tree Of Drawers – and one of his paintings, The Rebel (which is signed ‘Sal ’81’).
I have contributed text on these pieces – as well as a rare and impressive bookcase sold through Practical Styling, the central London home-wares outlet operated by Paul Jones and Tommy Roberts in the 80s – to the Out Of the Ordinary catalogue.
Out Of The Ordinary takes place on September 10 at Christie’s auction rooms in South Kensington, London. Viewing of the sale items begins on August 3. See here.
